Babyliss Wave Secret Air review: GLAMOUR Tries

There's no better pastime than testing out the coolest new skincare/makeup/hair trends and snazzy innovations in beauty tech from the comfort of your own home. That said, there's nothing more frustrating than spending upwards of £100 on a new at-home facial system or snazzy pair of hair straighteners, only to find out they don't *actually* work.

Enter: GLAMOUR Tries, the weekly Instagram series which sees GLAMOUR editors do all of the time-consuming (and expensive) work for you.

Yep, we've been busy trying out all of the wacky and wonderful beauty crazes to take the internet (read: TikTok) by storm – from the YSL lipstick printer to Il Makiage's iconic foundation and even the viral Hair Bedazzler tool from Amazon. These are the products every influencer/Gen-Z beauty sleuth/beauty editor is talking about on the internet – but that you want to be sure about before parting with your money.

Thanks to GLAMOUR Tries, you won't need to waste your hard-earned pennies on testing these innovations yourself. We're getting in their first, giving you the lowdown and ensuring you invest in products that genuinely work.

And this week, our Beauty Writer Shei Mamona is trying out the new Babyliss Wave Secret Air hair styling tool to see if it's worth the splurge. This device is priced at £150 and is one of the best hair styling tools out there, thanks to its automatic curling technology and the sleek aesthetic. It comes in the gorgeous matte black & rose gold colourway and is capable of creating the most stunning waves in a matter of seconds. All you need to do is simply close the handle, which will automatically draw the hair into the ceramic curl chamber, where it will get heated to form the wavy shape.

Now, let's break down the specs: It heats up to 230°C  and features three heat settings (180°C , 200°C and 230°C), an advanced digital motor, professional ceramic heating technnology, 2.5 swivel cord, curl direction control and more. It also comes with a heat protection mat and a three-year guarantee already included.

“Full disclaimer: This is my hair, because I bought it but it's a wig,” Shei says as she's starting to part her hair in preparation for styling. She then takes the tool closer to the camera, showing its control buttons that can switch up the temperature and the direction of the curls.

As she starts to try and style her hair, she immediately looks impressed with how the first curl turned out. “Apparently it has this anti-tangle technology, which I guess, has a sensor that detects if your hair is tangled and if it is, then it'll just release it. So that gives me a little bit of comfort,” she explains.

Once she's done styling half of her hair, she looks even more satisfied with the end-result. “Ooh, okay. This is great, y'all, this is so good. And it still has that shine – I love it, it's so quick as well. It took me 15 minutes!,” she concludes.
